Uploading Music to Amazon’s Cloud

The Amazon Music Importer, which pulls music tracks from your computer into the Amazon Cloud Player, has a few limitations on the types of files that can be used with the service. If the purchased songs are regular MP3 files or unrestricted AAC files (which have the .m4a extension), they should work with the Cloud Player.
Songs purchased from online stores that have built-in copy protection (also known as digital rights management or D.R.M.) are not supported, however. Songs with the .m4p file extension from Apple’s iTunes Store — purchased before the company dropped D.R.M. in early 2009 — will not work. Other formats that will not work include Dolby Digital (.ac3) and Monkey’s Audio (.ape) files. Audiobooks, ringtones, podcasts and music files larger than 100 megabytes are also not supported.
The Amazon Music Importer does accept several other file types for uploading, as long as the tracks can be matched in Amazon’s catalog. These formats include Windows Media Audio (.wma), Ogg Vorbis (.ogg), Free Lossless Audio Codec (.flac), Audio Interchange File Format (.aiff) and uncompressed WAV files. Amazon has more information about importing music into the Cloud Player here.
